Call for Papers

Members of WOS or AFO or both, and guests as well, are invited to contribute to the scientific sessions of the 2008 WOS/AFO meeting by presenting an oral paper or poster on any aspect of ornithological science.

To apply for a place on the scientific program, please submit an abstract to be received no later than 1 March 2008 to the Chair of the Scientific Program Committee, Dr. Robert C. Beason, by email (preferred) to: beason@netzero.com?subject=WOS Abstract (send abstract and other info as part of the body of a message, NOT as an attachment), one abstract per message, or by "snail mail" (one copy) to Robert C. Beason, WOS/AFO Scientific Program, P.O. Box 737, Sandusky, OH 44871, USA. Note that there is only one address for all submissions for this joint conference, regardless of the society with which an author may be affiliated (if any).

Papers will be organized into sessions based on scientific content of the abstract.

The abstract should be no more than 250 words and should be in the format of the example below, which shows how to handle multi-authored papers and to identify those in competition for student awards (with a superscript "A" at the start of the abstract). Use an asterisk to indicate the author who will give the presentation.

Begin the abstract on the next line. For multi-authored papers, put an asterisk (*) after the name of the person presenting the paper. Papers eligible for student awards should have an A (superscript "A") at the beginning of the title, as this one does. On lines below the abstract, give the name and email address of the person to contact if questions arise, whether the paper is intended for oral presentation or a poster, and A-V needs for oral presentations (incl. PowerPoint software version). Oral presentations will be limited to 15 min, including questions and technical difficulties. Posters may not exceed 36" wide by 48" tall and must be in place by 11 am Friday, 18 April. Abstracts should summarize findings rather than methods. Proposals for oral presentations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the schedule is full. Please indicate if you are willing to chair a paper session.

For a contribution to be eligible for an award, the presenter must be a current student and first author.
